Personal Interests

Dr. Bushing has enjoyed a wide range of intellectual and recreational interests which has kept him young beyond his years (in his Harvard class reunion group photo, he was easil;y recognized as one of the only individuals without grey hair). These varied interests include:
  1. Natural history, especially of islands
  2. Biodiversity (including that of my fellow human beings)
  3. SCUBA diving
  4. Underwater videography
  5. Ocean kayaking
  6. Hiking and camping
  7. Documentary nature photography and videography (35mm, film, digital video)
  8. Travel: Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, the moon
  9. The poetry of Robinson Jeffers
  10. The philosophy of Edward F. "Doc" Ricketts ("Doc" in Steinbeck's Cannery Row)
  11. The fiction of John Fowles (especially The Magus)
  12. Observational astronomy
  13. Computers, computer graphics and programming (xBASE, Pascal, BASIC, HTML)
